The gunners are all cross-trained as cargo hands. The Scytale is an optimistic design, advertised as being able to fight its way out of most forms of trouble. In point of fact, its lack of armour and poor design make it unable to compete with much more than a scout/courier, and the gunners of most of the examples in current service spend most of their time as cargo shifters. The fuel tanks are particularly vulnerable; a "Fuel-n" damage result has a n/6 chance of shattering the tanks instead. As a design, the Scytale proved a spectacular failure, and it is no longer made. However, a few desperate, stubborn or stupid captains still operate these ships as tramps.
