Shadaren was once a garden world with a fairly advanced culture. Political differences led to hostilities, and division, and finally nuclear holocaust. Smashed back to a bronze age technology in the ruins of greatness, the survivors are rapidly dwindling in numbers as plunderable resources are exhausted. Apart from the very high local radiation levels, the locals themselves are a danger to offworlders, as they will attack anyone who might be a source of food, weapons, or other survival equipment.
