“The knife is the legendary weapon of the ancient orcish warlord Lorgloth Blue Knife, Clan Lord of the Ragorka and self-proclaimed King of Orcland after the death of Garkaur Kulataur. When Sack Wyrmslayer ended the Orcish Civil War in 1602, Lorgloth died under peculiar circumstances, as did several other clan chiefs. The Knife disappeared at that point, though unconfirmed rumours point to a seer called Thend as taking possession of it.
“Rumours of it being used by Gorfang Deathdrinker to create his empire fifty years later were never confirmed, and no successor emerged with it after his death to take over the Gorfangach, so these rumours are probably untrue. “
“The item is a fearsome hand-to-hand weapon, and increases enormously the ability to dominate and control those of orc blood - and to a lesser extent those of ogre, some types of troll and fallen giantkind. This power is proportionate to the power of the wielder. It exacts a price, however. Use of it increasingly extends the dependency of the user on the weapon, to the point that he will be greatly handicapped if he is separated from it, and corrupts their soul into evil. It’s probable that its powers increase still more as this progresses. “
“Given its' power, containment or destruction are tricky. I admit freely that I can't unmake or alter it, and to my knowledge only a few people could. Elverandil Mastersmith of the Loyalist Elves; perhaps the Dwarves of Kobur; maybe Saryn Darrath the great Dragon of Vorsand, maybe Skufruss of the Kin if he still lives. “
“Under no circumstances should it fall into the hands of any orcs, the Scorpion Empire or the Dragons of the Drachenfels, and were he available I would have serious doubts about the wisdom of involving Skufruss either. “
“More locally, I have been studying the lore of the ruins known locally as the Wrathcairn. I have spoken to elves of my acquaintance who partook in the invasion of 1601, who recall that it was avoided but not why. Some reports describe it as being of dwarvish manufacture, which seems very odd – houses of the Naugrim are not usually found this far west. The orcs in this region shun the place.”
“One ancient work, allegedly written by the dwarvish mastersmith Durggedin the Black, describes "the Pits of Creation and Destruction" being somewhere inside, and this account leads me to suspect that these may have the power to unmake the Knife. There will probably be reasons, however, why the orcs shun the ruins....” |
