For several hundred years, vampires had been a myth in the Empire, and so all Gedrun's training had been theoretical. His arm of the Renders was thus badly unprepared for the Vintares Plot, and would have been entirely unsuccessful but for the assisstance and expertise of Sack, Greygill and Luregon.
