Magical defences surrounding the elven refuge island

The Isenbriand are the magical defences of Viridor. They appear from a distance like a huge misty fog-bank.
As a ship passes through, great whirling clouds surround it, with dreadful nightmarish shapes just hinted at within the mists. Spectres of terror and despair swirl and gibber; but an elven ship sails in a clear area within the clouds, and the visions do not reach or afflict the passengers unless they carry any evil with them.
